# Node groups and group-based mechanics

Both internal and cross-chain validation mechanisms in the Covenant system are based on node groups and group-based mechanics.

* Grouping allows group rotation - core feature for decentralization, trustlessness, and minimizing the collusion possibilities.
* Group-based mechanics allows to add additional witness groups.
* Master node groups along with witness groups concept allows to implement blind participation mechanics in governance processes, when a node doesn't know if it is in main group or in witness group.
