# Verification algorithms

For distributed data validation layer Covenant utilizes CBFT (Reputation Credit-graded Group-based BFT) consensus algorithm. 

Reputation rating is based on EigenTrust ++, a decentralized p2p node reputation rating system. 

Reputation rate of Validator node is slashed for proven misbehaviour. 

In addition, each Validator node has to stake a (sufficient) amount of funds to increase economical consequences (slashing) for proven misbehaviour.

Validator groups rotate with epoch overlap to eliminate participation in consensus 2 times in a row. Witness groups run in parallel to ensure fair validation. 

Covenant consensus is public, any node that meets transparent criteria (performance, reputation rate, stake), can participate in Covenant consensus.
