# Punishment policy

In case of master node' proven misbehaviour punishment measures apply.

The primary goal of punishment is to maintain the integrity and security of the Covenant system by discouraging and punishing actions that could harm it.  Punishment in Covenant system is performed via Slashing. 

Slashing affects two resources:

* Node reputation rate
* Node stake

Slashed amount of stake goes to the Covenant system but is not distributed among master nodes to avoid malicious attempts to slash a honest master node.
