# Fees and Commissions

Fees and commissions in Covenant system are transparent, public and deterministic as are publicly stated on-chain in smart contracts. Covenant commission rates are publicly DAO-managed.&#x20;

System fees and commissions can be divided onto two parts:

1. **Gas fees:** Bitcoin, Ethereum and other networks take fees for transaction processing and executing operations. These fees rate depend on the networks and are roughly calculated before tx execution.
2. **Covenant system commissions:** Covenant system charges commissions for its operations. These commissions are used to reward nodes (and users) that do the useful work - participate in state validation securing and cross-chain messages verification, to provide Yield program and to ensure the Covenant system development and growth.&#x20;

### Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>Can Covenant commission change during the operations?</summary>

Covenant commission rate can not be changed once it is set and the operation is executed.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can gas fee change?</summary>

Gas fee can change, as the price depends on network settings and load, and vary in different networks. That is why Covenant system puts extra gas amount when constructing the transaction. All unspent gas is returned to the user.

<summary>Can I participate in commission rate DAO management?</summary>

Yes, Covenant system is public, and participation in DAO is open for everyone, as well as participation in other system processes, e.g. validation.
